Skilled nursing care is care given or supervised by registered nurses. Under the direction of the patient’s physician, our registered nurses provide direct care as well as manage, observe, and evaluate a patient’s care. Registered nurses also teach the patient and their family caregiver. Examples of skilled nursing care include giving IV drugs, shots, and tune feedings; changing dressings; and teaching about diabetes care. Any service that can be done safely without the supervision of a registered nurse is not skilled nursing care. Medicare covers home health skilled nursing care that is part-time and intermittent.
